Mosaic Hikes the Wildcat Tract of Dawson Forest
Sunday, August 24, 2008, at 8:45 AM
Leader - Bonnie Rubin tazlina25@comcast.net 404-788-5788
We are going to revisit this moderate 6 mile waterfall hike
that we first experienced last year, http://mountainstewards.org,
and were rained out this year back in June.
We will be hiking over beautiful terrain in this section of Dawson
Forest with foothills, coves, rivers, creeks and even a beaver dam.
I also heard that that was a 100 year old mill site but we were not
able to find it last year.
We will hike in for about 3 miles to a beautiful waterfall where we
will have lunch and cool off (in the falls) for those that want to
get wet, then hike back the same way we came in.
This hike has some flat spots but also has some hills.
There is also a spot that crosses the creek that you MUST take off
your hiking shoes, put on water shoes to cross, and then put back on
your hiking shoes on the other side. You will have to do this on the
way back too.
Water level is about knee high. There is a rope, for support, to help
you get across or for the adventurous, you can just jump in and ford
the creek.
What to bring:
Hiking boots, LOTS of water (remember the heat this time of year),
lunch, water shoes, towel, clothes to hike/get wet, if you want to
enjoy the waterfall or get wet in the creeks, bug spray, sun block.
Where to meet/time:
8:45AM at Mansell Park and Ride off Ga. 400, Exit 8
The leader promises to wait 15 minutes before departing.
Dogs: Ok if under your control.
Cost: Free for members, non-member $5.00 or join for $25.00 annually.
We ask that you chip in for gas if you are not a driver.
The cost of gas is very high,
so help out the person who is kind enough to drive.
