3 Forks Waterfall Hike & Swim III
Leader: Charna Perloe, Charna@email.com, 404-668-8554
Category: Hiking
Because this is the most amazing hike for playing and swimming
in waterfalls in Georgia, we're going back yet again. There's
more waterfalls, jacuzzi rocks and swimming spots on one hike than
you'll ever see.
We'll be hiking to the three creeks that make up the western fork of
the Chattooga River, which is in a designated Wild and Scenic
River corridor. The hike itself is a lollypop loop, about 6 miles,
with several prongs that go to the waterfall gorge areas. First
we'll visit the 3 Forks area and play in the rock jacuzzis on
Big Creek. We'll be able to see three creeks converge into one.
Then we'll climb back up to the main trail, hike a strenuous half
mile and take another trail down to the 2nd gorge to a a stunning
50-foot 3-tiered waterfall and swimming hole that you'll want to
cool off in right under the waterfall.
Ability Level: Starts out moderate, ends up strenuous. We'll hike
at a moderate pace. 7+ miles with some short but steep sections
going down to the waterfall and then back up. Butt-sliding is
allowed. We're mostly under shade but the heat wave makes this a
more strenuous hike. Not for beginners or young children.
Meeting Time: 8:30 AM. Be on time so we can enjoy the waterfalls.
The leader promises to wait 15 minutes after the scheduled
meeting time before departing.
Meeting Location: Indian Trail Park & Ride, Exit 101 on 85N.
Turn left, go over the interstate and turn right toward the MARTA
park & ride driveway. We meet at the lower parking area.

the waterfalls, lunch, snacks, 2 liters of water, STURDY water shoes
to navigate rocky creek bottom (=no flipflops), bathing suit
or water clothes, towel, hiking stick optional.
